Hugh and Me

Sorry This took so long. I actually had this entry typed up for about a week, but I hadn't got around to taking the pictures. Anyways, here you go.

Hughie is the newest guitar in my collection. He was a Christmas gift from my parents in 2008, so he's just over two years old - his reincarnated life that is. I found Hughie on He's a refurbished Epiphone Les Paul standard. I choose to get a LP because I had played my buddy AJ's a handful of times and absolutely loved the way it felt. I played around with a few in Musicstop (now Long&Mcquade), but the price was a little steeper than I was willing to let my parents pay at the time. Then someone told me about musiciansfriends (probably AJ), so I checked it out and there was Hughie, in all his glossy black goodness.

Oh My Darlin' Clementine

As promised here is a feature post on one of my guitars. This post is for Clemie (Clementine). Clemie is a Garrison AG-500-CE. Although Garrison guitars were founded and originally built in Newfoundland the AG series is built in China. I'm assuming that's to reduce production costs. Garrison was actually bought by gibson in 2007. I bought Clemie the summer of 2006 with my first paycheck from Canadian Tire, so she has probably the most sentimental value out of all of my guitars because I bought it with my own hard earned cash. I played Clemie in Chi Alpha many a night.

To Grandmother's House We Go

I woke up this morning to about two feet of snow outside my door. I didn't even know it was supposed to snow. I bet all the folks out in Vancouver were wishing the Olympics were on the east coast right about now. Half of the clinics clients cancelled today because they can't get out of their driveway or are to nervous to drive in the snow, so that makes for a very quite day at work. Of course, this is the one day I forgot to bring my book, so let's just say I'll be reading a lot of news stories. I wish I could crawl in under my desk and sleep, but I don't think that would go over to well. I don't know what's wrong with me lately, but I can barely keep my eyes open by the time I get home from work. Last night I feel asleep at about 10 o'clock, slept in till 8 o'clock and was still dog tired when I crawled out of bed. I would say that I have low iron, but I really don't think that's it.

Basketball Jones

Round two of my reintegration to basketball starts tonight. I'm set to play another pick-up game tonight at 7:30. I've been looking forward to it all night and thinking about how to go about this without spending the weekend as a big  bag of soreness. I borrowed some tuff-skin adhesive spray from work to spray the soles of my sneaks with for a little bit of grip. Hopefully in helps out. A lot of athletes at the Tae Kwon Do championship I volunteered at a couple of weeks back came to us asking to use in on their feet. That's where I got the idea to try it out.

This weekend Sarah and I are flying to Toronto for the John Mayer concert. I'm super excited. We're staying with my family up there, so it should be a good time all around. Sarah hasn't really met most of my family from my mom's side. This will be a chance for her to meet some of my kin. My crazy, crazy, kin. Short entry today eh? Cheers.

Shot To The Heart

You'd think as a 22 year old kinesiologist that I'd be in tip top shape. Granted, I haven't been as active since I left high school and school sports, but I thought I was still decently fit. Apparently not. I played basketball last night for the first time in months and today I feel as though I was hit by a truck. My legs are sore and weak, my back is tight and I have a pain below my ribcage from taking a knee in the chest. It was great fun though. I can't shoot as well as  I used to and my ball handling skills feel rusty, but after a couple of games I got into it. I really need to get in a bit better shape if I'm going to be playing with this guys regularly though and perhaps purchase some new basketball shoes.

I'm so happy tomorrow is Saturday. I want to sleep in, eat pancakes and just lounge around the house with my lovely lady. I might even do something productive like a load of laundry, but I'll play it by ear.

Right now is another excruciatingly slow day at work. This week has been busier than the last couple though, and next week has the potential to be mildly busy.

That's my rant for today. I think I will start putting more pictures in my blog in the future, I have a feeling that my page looks kinda plain/dull. Anyway, cheers!

Drop It Like It's Hot

Here's an unusual comment about our apartment: It's a friggin' sauna here tonight. I'm not entirely sure if this is a welcomed changed from the toe-numbing cold that the apartment has been lately, but I feel like I should be wearing a grass skirt and roasting a pig. The heat kind of caught Sarah and I off guard since it's usually so cold here we always have the radiator up (here's some newf for you) "whatever she can suffer." Because of that by the time it was scorch the hair of your chest hot it was too late. I've turned the radiator down, but the one in the bathroom doesn't turn down because the knob is stuck so it's always on all the way. Of course this would be the one night when the heat stays on rather then coming on intermittently. Oh what I wouldn't give for a little consistency with this run-down building of ours. I long for the day that we can use the microwave without worrying that the power in our unit will go out, a bathroom with outlets, a kitchen with counter space, and a living room big enough so that I can actually recline in my chair.

Towards the middle/end of May I will know whether or not I got into physiotherapy school and, if I did get in, where. At that point we will start looking for a new place. Rest assured we will be doing our research to get a decent spot. Like a place with a shower that doesn't take 5 minutes to get hot.

On a more pleasant note, I don't hate Halifax as much anymore. It's still not St. John's, but no where is. This might have something to do with the prospect of playing basketball a couple times a month with a guy who volunteers at my work and my friend Kristin's boyfriend. This makes me very happy. I haven't touched a basketball in like six months. I'm in pretty bad shape now though, so hopefully these guys aren't super elite players or anything. Cheers.
